DOTHAN: At 10:20 PM Dothan Police 911 dispatched Dothan Police - Dothan Fire - and Pilcher Ambulance to 2612 Scott Road to reports of a structure fire.
The responding fire engines were given an initial report of a fire in the laundry room and a wheelchair bound person unable to evacuate.
Dothan 911 re-routed Dothan Police Officers from a call they were responding to and dispatched the two police cruisers to this residence.
Dothan Fire Engine from Napier Field Road was the first on the scene. Engine 6 reported nothing visible. A quick entry was a small fire in the laundry room and a fire hose was brought in and fire extinguished very quickly.
Dothan 911 Center did an outstanding job of:
(1) determining the residence was occupied by a person in a wheelchair who was unable to evacuate.
(2) dispatching multiple fire units and EMS making them fully aware the residence was occupied by a wheelchair bound person unable to evacuate and where the fire was located.
(3) the immediate re-routing of Dothan Police Patrol units who were the closest to the scene and dispatching the police patrol units to this structure fire. The officers were responding to another call when Dothan 911 turned them in their tracks because the fire was far more important of a priority to respond to.
Dothan Fire units staged at the fire hydrants ready. Made quick searches of the house for occupants. And got water on the fire quickly.
GREAT JOB to the Dothan 911 Center - the most important ingredient in emergency services, and the Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance for the quick and rapid response.
