DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:    HOUSTON....we have a problem.

Southeast Alabama Medical Center is on BMU ( Behavioral Medical Unit ) diversion. They can not take anymore patients for mental issues.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza, in consultation with Houston County Probate Judge Patrick Davenport has ordered deputies to transport the person from a Kinsey to BMU at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

As the deputy Reports to communications they are transporting to Southeast Alabama Medical Center BMU the 911 dispatcher tells the units SAMC is on BMU Diversion. The deputy reports this transport is per Sheriff Donald Valenza and Probate Judge Patrick Davenport.

This person was trying to commit suicide by making law enforcement have to use deadly physical force. This morning Dothan Police investigated a suicide death where the person was successful in taking their life.

FOLKS....these are for real problems.

Under the Chief Executive Officer Rick Sutton, hired by Southeast Alabama Medical Center Board Chairman Chester Sowell ( former Mayor of Dothan ) and fellow board members the actual capacity of BMU patients allowed is less then before Sutton.

So that creates major issues for law enforcement, EMS, and those who have to do the work ( nurses and doctors ) at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Southeast Alabama Medical Center is on diversion almost every week. It creates problems for those in the field dealing with trauma, gunshots, heart attack's, strokes and other medical calls. The diversion creates problems for the nurses and doctors busting their buttocks trying to treat and juggle.

This past week EMS were told by Southeast Alabama Medical Center they go on diversion because the emergency room is over half full and no room. The diversion stops out lying hospitals from sending patients to Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

What is the common problem on diversion? More patients then room. That is what EMS were told.

So what does Rick Sutton, Chester Sowell and the board do to solve that? In the news recently they announce they are building a doctor’s center behind Winn Dixie.

Does patients stay “in” the doctors center or “in” the hospital? So Sutton, Chester and the board do not build more hospital rooms they build a doctor’s center.

This is consistent with Chester’s tenure as Dothan’s Mayor. Stick your head in the sand - buttocks in the air and pretend nothing is wrong.

And do everything opposite of solving the real problem.

HOUSTON - we have a real problem.
