DOTHAN: 11:12 PM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police - Dothan Fire to a motor vehicle accident verses a fire hydrant accident on West Main Street at Meusum Street.
The primary Dothan Patrol Officer called for the City of Dothan Water Department to be dispatched. The Dothan Police Patrol Lt. Jeremy Collins instructed communications to wait until he arrived on the scene before calling the water department.
When Lt. Collins arrived on the scene he instructed 911 to call Dothan Fire Department. When Dothan Fire Department arrived the fire department had the City of Dothan Water Department called to the scene.
The water flow was so strong the Water Department has been required to dispatch a back hoe in order to dig to the area in order to cut the water off. Dothan Fire notified the railroad of the situation because of trains coming through the area.
MORAL OF STORY TO PATROL SUPERVISORS LIKE COLLINS: Patrolman are capable of making intelligent decisions without your having to to be macho cop. They waited to do what the patrol officer requested when he initially arrived.
Traffic had to be directed in the cold while the water was stopped.
There were no injuries in the accident.
