MOBILE: A store clerk's fate will be left to a grand jury after an errant bullet struck a 15-year-old during a store robbery. Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste says self defense doesn't necessarily apply.
Mobile Police are investigating several aspects of a chaotic robbery that took place Wednesday night at a Citgo on 1751 Riverside Drive.
Police say suspect Joseph Soutullo, 26, walked into the gas station, armed with a handgun and demanded cash from the attendant behind the register. The attendant gave him $300 in cash. However, a second clerk didn't comply with the suspects orders.
Instead, he grabbed a handgun from behind the counter and fired a single shot at the suspect.
The bullet missed the suspect, though, striking a 15-year-old female victim who was standing on the sidewalk outside the store, with no association to the robbery taking place inside.
