HOUSTON - HENRY COUNTY:    According to The Dothan Eagle, 20th Judicial Circuit Court District Attorney Pat Jones is considering bringing retired District Attorney Doug Valeska back to the District Attorney Office.

Valeska did not seek re-election as District Attorney. There were three contenders for that office. Defense Attorney Pat Jones won the election as District Attorney.

Valeska was a hard nosed District Attorney. He was very aggressive when he served five terms as the Chief Prosecutor for the 20th Judicial Circuit.

If Doug Valeska had sought re-election as District Attorney no one could have beat him. He decided to retire and three sought election as District Attorney.

Most either hated or loved Doug Valeska. But regardless of the opinion he was a hard nosed prosecutor. Sometimes to hard nosed, but never the less very hard nosed.

Houston-Henry County District Attorney Pat Jones is considering bringing former district attorney Doug Valeska back into the prosecutor’s office.

Jones told the Dothan Eagle Wednesday that he has been in contact with Valeska.

“I have spoken with Doug,” Jones said. “If he is interested, my intentions are to bring him back to help with the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center with seminars or cases involving elder abuse. I think we could use him, and we need good people.”

Valeska served five terms as district attorney of Houston and Henry counties. His prosecutions resulted in numerous capital murder convictions.

During his tenure, he helped start several programs including the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center and Wiregrass Angel House. The Child Advocacy Center assists children believed to be victims of crime. The Angel House provides many types of assistance to crime victims and provides ongoing assistance to the family members of homicide victims.

Valeska retired from his position as district attorney in January 2017.
