ALABAMA TRAUMA CONTROL
DOTHAN’S LEVEL TWO TRAUMA CENTER ON DIVERSION....AGAIN
In Alabama there is a network referred to as Alabama Trauma Control Center. When EMS were enroute to the Level 2 Trauma Center - the only Level 2 Trauma Center under the command of Rick Sutton and Chester Sowell, the EMS units were advised SAMC was on diversion. However the EMS units fighting to save the life transported the patient to SAMC anyway because of patient being critical.
The diversion of the hospital causes major issues for EMS units across the wiregrass area. Dothan - Houston County sold themselves as a major medical hub. The constant diversion is a problem.
The leadership - whomever they are - are not talking to the EMS field providers on solutions. The EMS providers with the patients are just left dangling in the wind. Most take the position of one of the EMS Leaders - he is transporting critical patients to the nearest medical facility, regardless.
The leadership, whomever they are, should meet with EMS field units for a discussion on the issues of diversion.
