2:52 PM. Motor Vehicle Accident Highway 231 And Hwy. 55 Just Inside Alabama From Florida

HOUSTON COUNTY:    At 12:29 PM Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched a two vehicle auto accident on Highway 231 South at State Line Road ( Highway 55 ) just north of the Alabama - Florida line.

The accident involved a Ford pickup and a passenger car.

Houston County Sheriff Deputy Gray was the first officer on the scene. Deputy Gray reported serious injuries.

Rehobeth Assistant Fire - Rescue Chief Nick Floyd was already on the scene of the accident on Highway 231 South and Highway 109 and rolled to the scene. Cottonwood Rescue was rolling to the scene as the primary EMS.

When Assistant Chief Floyd arrived and saw the seriousness of one of the injuries Chief Floyd requested Dothan Fire respond for advanced life support assistance. Dothan Fire Engine 2 ( Lakewood ) rolled to the scene.

Additional EMS rolled to the scene from Rehobeth and Pilcher Ambulance.

Cottonwood Rescue packaged the trauma patient and departed the scene northbound and met Dothan Fire. The Dothan Fire Advanced Life Support team boarded the ambulance and the patient was transported to a Dothan hospital.

The passenger vehicle took impact in the driver’s door. The side air bags deployed and helped minimize the injuries as much as possible.

There were 5 people in the Ford F-150. The front and side air bags deployed and no one was injured. Madrid Fire Chief Chan Elliot called Madrid Baptist Church to send the church bus to assist the 5 in the truck in getting them to HERTZ Auto Rental at Dothan Regional Airport.

ALEA-Trooper Division investigated the accident.

Houston County Sheriff Department, ALEA-Troopers, Madrid Fire, Rehobeth Fire, Cottonwood Rescue, Rehobeth Rescue, Pilcher Ambulance, Dothan Fire and Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah were on the scene.

NOTE:

The traffic signals at this intersection were put up years ago for McClain. As you pop over the Alabama - Florida line, northbound, you are on top of the lights before you know it. Wrecks at this intersection are normally serious/critical injuries or fatalities.

ALDOT needs serious consideration on this intersection in order to save lives.
