COWARTS:    4:53 PM.  The Alabama Department of Transportation ( ALDOT ) has closed the cross over median on Highway 84 East and Forrester Road.


This afternoon ALDOT, with the assistance of ALEA - Troopers have closed the cross over median at Highway 84 East and Forrester Road.


This decision is due to the high volume of accidents with major injuries in this intersection.


Just last night a 21 year old girl was severally injured when involved on a two vehicle crash. The young softball athlete had to be extricated from the wreckage with a possible broken ankle. Pilcher Ambulance and Cowarts Volunteer Fire extricated the young lady who was in severe pain from the wreckage.


Several weeks ago a lady was killed in this intersection.


ALDOT attempted a traffic signal at this intersection which caused an increase in the accidents.


The Town Council of Cowarts and Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland, with the Houston County Commission to include a large player Houston County Commissioner of District 2 Doug Sinquefield, Alabama State Representative Paul Lee, Steve Clouse, Dexter Grimsley, and Senator Donnie Chesteen, ALEA - State Troopers have all worked hard and been in major discussions about the best options for this intersection.


Today ACTION WAS TAKEN.


NOTICE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO COMPLAIN


I HAVE PERSONALLY stood next to the lady who was killed several weeks ago after her death. Personally I assisted with loading her body on the stretcher, dead, from the accident in this intersection.


I HAVE PERSONALLY, last night, held the 21 year old young ladies hand while she squeezed my hand in pain, severe pain, as the medics worked to extricate her from the wreckage.


The changes might not be as convienant for you as you travel. GET OVER IT. Do not complain to the officials.


I CAN SAY WITH 100% assurance they have discussed this and have made a decision for the safety and security of the public. And as one that has stood with the body and injured, I applaud the officials for their actions.


Something had to be done. While there are a lot fo causes, a lot are caused by negligent actions on the motoring public. Not pointing to any particular accident because other actions often times play into the causes of wrecks, but also inattention to what the driver is doing causes accidents.


So in this case, DO NOT BLAME THE OFFICIALS FOR THE ACTIONS TAKEN if you do not like them. Get over it!
