GORDON:      5:24 PM.     Reports came into Houston County Sheriff 911 that the Gordon Police Chief had one at gunpoint on Tipton Road. Reports were the subject threatened the life of the Gordon Police Chief.

Multiple Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Ashford Police scrambled to Gordon.

Prior to Units arrival Gordon Police Chief Jim Mock had the subject in custody and under arrest.

Gordon Police is stranded as other Houston County Sheriff Deputies and municipal police departments throughout Houston County because the radio system is inoperable. Hurricane Michael knocked the system out. The deputies and municipal officers are operating on the City of Dothan radio system. That system does not cover all of Houston County.

Chief Mock, while holding a person at gunpoint, was having to make phone calls to the Sheriff 911 Center Requesting help.

Houston County has been working on a new radio system. That project is more than two years in the works. The county attorney says this project is a “public works project”. That has made Houston County’s radio project stall and move at a snail’s pace.

Now that Hurricane Michael has struck Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has declared Alabama under a State of Emergency. With Hurricane Michael taking the radio system down and inoperable Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver could send an emergency declaration to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Hal Taylor and Alabama Emergency Management Director Brian Hastings.

That Emergency declaration that the current radio system is inoperable and our Houston County Sheriff Deputies and county municipal law enforcement officers lives are at danger. Not to mention our citizens who call for emergency assistance.

Hastings and Taylor can agree with Chairman Culver’s State of Emergency and the new radio system could go forward without bid. Folks, this is a public safety emergency.

Should Taylor and Hastings not agree and Governor Ivey refuse to sign the State of Emergency declaration for purchase, then when a law enforcement officer or citizen dies because of the communications system, then Hal Taylor - Brian Hastings and Kay Ivey will have blood on their hands.

Culvers failure to send that emergency declaration means the blood will be on his hands.

( NOTE:  The State of Alabama is currently under a State of Emergency Declaration. That declaration is in affect for 60 days from the date signed by Governor Ivey. The Houston County Commission declared a State of Emergency following Governor Ivey’s. Chairman Culver needs to expand and lay this emergency in Hal Taylor, Brian Hastings and Kay Ivey’s lap. IMMEDIATELY.)

Let this afternoon with Gordon Police Chief Jim Mock be a warning sign. Move with haste. At least you will be able to tell the officer’s widow and children you tried and it is the fault of Hal Taylor - Brian Hastings and Kay Ivey If they refuse to move in this State of Emergency.

BTW - Gordon is majority a minority community. Hurricane Michael hit the area hard.

Sheriff Valenza and the County Commission have been working on the radio system. But now - it has become dangerous and life threatening. Make Kay Ivey do something because it is clear she has the authority.
