DOTHAN:     5:51 AM.    At 4:51 AM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police to 603 West Burdeshaw Street to reports of a female being held against her will. Within literally seconds multiple Dothan Police units were on the scene. And when I say seconds I mean seconds.

The male suspect was asleep on the couch and the female was able to unlock the back door. The suspect did not know that 911 had been called.

By 4:56 AM Dothan Police Patrol Division reported the suspect in custody and emergency radio traffic no longer was needed.

Dothan Fire Engine 1 ( Central ) was requested to respond, non emergency, in reference to a K-9 bite to the suspect.

Dothan Police Patrol Division requested Dothan Police Criminal Investigation Division be dispatched.

At 5:51 AM Dothan Police were still on the scene on West Burdeshaw Street. Also Dothan Police had the suspect in the Emergency Room of a local hospital.

COMPLIMENTS TO Dothan Police 911 Center. As I listened to the alert tones hit, which means basically “ hey everybody ATTENTION, we are about to tell you of an emergency “, and the dispatcher did, with calmness, describe to the Dothan Police Patrol Division everything the officer(s) needed to know to be safe, what the 911 Center had been able to learn through the 911 call, to where the suspect was located.

It is through training the 911 Staff is able to remain calm. The 911 staff takes theri jobs very serious, and are fully aware that the information they receive and tell the responding police officers can make the difference between officers going home at the end of their shift or not, and also means the safety and security of the public.

And in this call it was the 911 staff that made the difference.

Then Dothan Police Patrol Division being on top of the scene and arriving within literally seconds from when the alert tones hit. And in less then 5 minutes from the alert tones hitting to notify officers of the call, the woman was rescued and the suspect was taken into custody.

At this time we do not know all of the circumstances of why the woman was being held against her will or any particular details. But we do know that this call went like a text book call from the phones going ring - ring in the 911 Center to the safety and security of the victim to the apprehension of the suspect to his getting medical treatment because the K-9 “ got his bite “.

GREAT JOB!
