SATURDAY AFTERNOON WEATHER BRIEFING . . . . Henry County EMA Director Ronnie Dollar said the National Weather Service Briefing this afternoon shows another slight drift to the west. The area can expect tropical storm winds beginning Sunday afternoon that could increase. The winds should end by Monday night. The Red Cross Certified Shelters at the Abbeville United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Headland will open at 4:00 Sunday afternoon. Those coming to the shelter are asked to bring a pillow and some type of bedding. Area churches are asked to have volunteers ready in the event they are needed. All public schools as well as ACA will be closed Monday and Tuesday. The next official briefing will take place at 8:30 Sunday Morning.
Once the local shelters are open, beginning at 4:00 PM tomorrow, anyone in mobile homes or weak structures who needs transportation to a shelter can contact the Abbeville Police Department at (334)585-2221. Transportation will be on a first come first serve basis. They will be able to accommodate persons with mobility issues as they will have access to wheelchair accessible buses.
