DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:
A dispatcher’s job is highly stressful. They have to possess keen listening skills and be excellent communicators. They must be able to have “dispatcher’s ear” – listening to what is going on in the background of the call and in the communications center. Dispatchers must be able to multi-task and be able to do several things at once. This job is stressful and good coping skills are necessary to be able to handle the pressure of the job.
The two pictures attached show only ten out of the 20+ city and county dispatchers that are working today. While they have told me several times that they don’t do this job for the “atta-girls or atta-boys”, but they deserve them, especially today. While other families had the opportunity to attend church or spend time with their own mothers or children, these wonderful people are here taking calls from strangers during their most difficult time.
All of you deserve to be recognized for the sacrifices you make: working nights, holidays, and weekends with little to no sleep. You deserve recognition for all the birthdays, holidays, games, dinners, and family gatherings that you have missed through the years. Most importantly, thank you for your dedication to Houston County and the City of Dothan! Happy Mother’s Day!
