MALVERN - GENEVA COUNTY:    What a great place to be - in MALVERN at the Senior Citizens Center. A today of fellowship and some great Geneva County food.

Today was also a day when the MALVERN Senior Citizens heard from several people seeking election to county offices in Geneva County.

Several political candidates were present for today’s meeting:  Weston Spivey - Candiate for Geneva County Commission; Tony Helms - Candidate for re-election as Geneva County Sheriff; Fred Hammic - Candidate for re-election as Probate Judge and County Commission Chairman; Toby Seay - Candidate for Geneva County Probate Judge;

Weston Spivey, a super, terrific young man seeking  his first political office as Geneva County Commissioner. Spivey is a Geneva County business owner. He is a strong conservative Christian who believe’s in keeping the values of Geneva County.

Weston is a volunteer on Slocomb and Fadette Fire Department and enjoys serving the citizens of the community in a volunteer capacity.

Weston desires to bring a business mind set to the Geneva County Commission. Weston said the key to progress in Geneva County is economic development.

Weston told the Senior Citizens, with Fadette Fire Chief Kyle HOVEY and MALVERN Fire Chief Anthony Johnson in attendance, that when elected, he plans to take the salary of a “part time Geneva County Commissioner” of $ 19,967.00 and donate it all to various entities that serve the citizens.

After the tax withholding, Weston will donate 20% of the $ 19,967.00 to Slocomb Fire, MALVERN Fire and Fadette Fire Departments. This will amount to 6.6% for each department.

Weston will donate 20% to MALVERN and Slocomb Seniors, resulting in each Senior Citizens Center getting 10% each.

Weston will donate 20% of the $ 19,967.00 salary to Slocomb Police Department, 20% of the salary to Geneva County Sheriff Department, and 20% to the Geneva County Schools for school security.

Weston believes being a County Commissioner is “public service”. If people like the volunteer fireman can get out of bed and fight structure fires for fire, Weston has a strong belief that he will give the commission salary back to the county and serve for free to make his home county a better place to live.

Also speaking was Probate Judge/Commission Chairman Fred HamIc. He asks for another six year term. Hammic spoke of several projects he wants to see completed, such as the Geneva County Jail. Hammic said he has enjoyed serving and would like to continue.

Toby Seay spoke is also seeking election as Probate Judge/Chairman of Geneva County Commission. Toby is lifetime resident of Geneva County. He has 22 years with the Geneva COunty Probation Office and is a owner of a private business. Seay has also served as a Geneva County Commissioner. Seay has a plan to improve Geneva County and wants to serve as COmmission Chairman and Probate Judge.

Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms spoke to the Senior Citizens. Helms is seeking re-election as Geneva County Sheriff. Helms said he has spent 32 years with Geneva County Sheriff Department. He loves Geneva County and has “wanted” to serve his 32 years with the greatest people on earth — Geneva County.

 Sheriff Helms asked for four more years as Sheriff.

The group then enjoyed a great lunch, and much better, fellowship with one another on this beautiful day in Geneva County.

NOTE:

Over the last couple of years I have had the distinct honor and privilege of getting to know Weston Spivey. He is a young man of integrity and respect. He is energetic with a vision and passion to serve. The registered voters of Geneva County will cast a vote they will never regret when they cast that vote for Weston Spivey as Geneva County Commissioner.
