Abbeville - Headland - Henry County Officials Meet Over Communications And Central Dispatch

ABBEVILLE - HEADLAND - HENRY COUNTY:     On Friday Abbeville, Headland and Henry County officials met in a Friday morning meeting to discuss emergency operations communications and joint communications center.


The meeting was held at the Henry County Courthouse. Present for the meeting, Abbeville Mayor Billy Helms, Abbeville Police Chief Noel Vanlandingham, Headland Mayor Ray Marler, Headland Police Chief Mark Jones, Henry County Commission Chairman David Money, Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox and Henry County 911 Director Chad Sowell.


Abbeville Mayor Billy Helms, Headland Mayor Ray Marler, and Henry County Commission Chairman/Probate Judge David Money all expressed their support for emergency services and emergency service communications.


The three commission leaders and law enforcement leaders discussed the interoperability between the agencies. The Mayors and Chairman stressed to the law enforcement commanders they supported them in making that work.


The Mayors and Chairman are meeting in the upcoming weeks to discuss the centralization of the communications. They will appoint a committee of about four people to discuss the options. This committee will be a neutral committee of citizens. They will look at all avenues of the current system and how to improve services.


Each are working together with the common goal and purpose of protecting the law enforcement officers, fireman and EMS as well as serving the citizens in an effective and efficient manner.

There have been no decisions made on centralization or locations. But everyone is working together to make ideas work.
