ALABAMA: We have been asked about the elections and want to clarify some issues.
RIGHT NOW the only upcoming election is that of United States Senator replacing Jeff Sessions ( Luther Strange was appointed but defeated ). The election is between Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones.
RAISING MONEY candidates that are Democrat or Republican, which will run in June 2018, have already started raising money. They are allowed by law for the past month or two to raise money. Those running as Independents ( no party affiliation ) can not raise money until November or December.
WHAT ABOUT ALL OF THE PEOPLE ANNOUNCING the people announcing are seeking election in a party primary and/or run off which will be held in June 2018. At that time Alabama Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, State Treasurer, State Auditor, AG Director, All 35 Alabama Senators, all 105 Alabama House Members, Secretary of State, some Circuit Judges, Probate Judges, Sheriff's, Coroner's, County Commissioners, some School Board positions which are state and some local, will be seeking election.
THE PARTY NOMINEE will face one Republican, one Democrat and Independents in the November 2018 election.
PARTY PRIMARY the Republican Party and Democratic Party each will have people running against each other to become their party nominee. The final winner for each party, Republican and Democrat, will face whomever runs as an Independent in November. All in the year 2018.
SO, ALL ANNOUNCING NOW will not be on the ballots until June 2018.
THEN THOSE ELECTED will not take office until January 2019, except for County Commissioner. Those will take office in November 2018 following the election.
If only Republican's qualify and not Democrats, or the other way around, the race will end in June or after the June run off. Because there will be no opposition for the November race. But even if that applies to a county commission race, the county commissioners will remain the same until the November election.
CONFUSED? That's the design of the decision makers.
