A North Alabama school system is closing as its number of flu cases are on the rise, a trend seen in other parts of the state.
Albertville City Schools will be closed Friday and Monday in response to increases in the number of sick students. Just across the Alabama line, Fayetteville, Tennessee City Schools will also close Friday.
Albertville officials said 13 percent of the district’s almost 5,700 students were absent Thursday. The student-free days will be used to clean classrooms and other parts of the building, AL.com newspartner WHNT reported.
Fayetteville is reporting higher numbers for those battling flu, as well as a stomach virus.
Other school systems are urging parents to keep kids at home if they are ill.
