DOTHAN:  On Wednesday, July 18, 2018, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) responded to a custodial death investigation in Dothan, at the request of Dothan Police Chief Steven Parrish.

The investigation stems from a 911 call for medical assistance, to which Dothan PD also responded, in the 600 block of Price Street. At some point, the patient, 38-year-old William Earl Jackson, was restrained by police and later lost consciousness while under medical care.  Mr. Jackson was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

As is standard procedure in most law enforcement custodial deaths, Chief Parrish requested the SBI conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances related to Mr. Jackson’s death.  SBI Agents responded immediately to the scene and hospital.  Once it is complete, a copy of the investigation will be turned over to the Houston County District Attorney.  No additional information is available at this time.
