MONTGOMERY -- The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Driver License Division computer system has been out of operation for much of a second day, but the agency and its support contractor, MorphoTrust USA, are working to restore service as quickly as possible.

On Monday, July 17, the system was down for approximately two hours. Today, July 18, service has been intermittent, but customers across the state have been inconvenienced.

MorphoTrust offered more details in the following statement:

“Over the weekend, ALEA and its support contractor, MorphoTrust USA, upgraded computer systems to enable the production of new Commercial Learner’s Permits in Alabama. Despite extensive testing by the teams, problems were encountered early Monday which resulted in a shutdown of the system statewide for approximately two hours.  Similar problems forced the shutdown of the entire system again for approximately two hours on Tuesday morning, and we are still experiencing intermittent system performance issues that may impact customer service.  A dedicated team of experts from ALEA and MorphoTrust USA is working closely together in Montgomery to restore the system to normal operations as quickly as possible.  This team will work around the clock until we are satisfied that all issues have been corrected, computer system operations are stable, and customer service is back to normal.”

At this time, all Driver License customers – both in ALEA-run Driver License Examining Offices, probate and license commissioners offices, as well as online  – are being affected. ALEA will continue to provide updates via Alabama media outlets, Facebook and Twitter.
