DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY IN ELMORE COUNTY: This week Communications Officers from Dothan and Houston County 911 are in Elmore County along with Alabama Emergency Management for training.
The training is All - Hazards Tactical Dispatcher Training.
Attending from Dothan Police 911, Amy Elliott and Tori Garrett and from Houston County Sheriff 911 is Christy Dean, and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management is Rickey Stokes. Chambers County EMA Jessica Yeager and Coosa County Sheriff Department Kennedy Locklear also attending. From Alabama Emergency Management is Sheldon Hutcherson and Brandon Gray.
The week long course provides hands-on and lecture based training for all hazards dispatch. The topics covered include INTD background knowledge, preparedness, mobilization, operations, demobilization, Priority Telecommunications Services, and FirstNet.
The Tactical Dispatch can be used for sudden emergencies or planned emergency events. Taking work loads from the day to day 911 center to a specialized unit focused specifically on the emergency or special event.
The course is being taught by Jeff Ownby from Whitfield County Georgia and Jeff Carney from Chattanooga Tennessee.
The group were welcomed by Alabama Emergency Management Director Brian Hastings. Director Hastings provided encouragement and to understand what others do. Director Hastings said communications is the link that connects people together. People who need to people who can provide. To have unity in action.
Communications Officers are the vital links in emergency operations. Connecting the public and emergency responders together. Their actions saves lives of the public and those responding to emergencies.
