All Systems Were Go As Designed To Save Young Man's Life But GOD Had Other Plans

HOUSTON COUNTY:     First allow me to pay my respects to the family of 16 year old Aron Eugene Dunn. His life was claimed as a result of a lightning strike of two trees at his home on Willie Varnum Road.

While the outcome of a situation is not in our hands the response and how things are handled is in our hands.

This call, from the time 911 was dialed and the Houston County Sheriff 911 Center answered the first call, things went as designed.

The 911 Center rolled the appropriate agencies.

Mr. Bo Deathridge of Hodgesville Volunteer Fire was the first on the scene. When he saw CPR was in progress he called Houston County Sheriff 911 Center and requested mutual aid assistance of advanced life support from Dothan Fire Department.

When Cottonwood Volunteer Rescue was dispatched Ms. Penny Quattlebaum also requested the advanced life support from Dothan Fire Department.

Second on the scene was David Fonda, a paramedic and volunteer of Hodgesville Volunteer Fire. He immediately ran to the young man and Deathridge doing CPR.

Third and fourth on the scene was Houston County Sheriff Deputy Mike Stacey And myself, who is also part time with Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management. Deputy Stacey went to the young man, Deathridge and Fonda and began CPR efforts.

Cottonwood Volunteer Rescue arrived. Dothan Fire Engine 4 was advised of the route that Cottonwood Rescue would use once transported so that their response route to the scene would intersect with the ambulance.

Backboard and stretchers were to the patient and the patient loaded into the ambulance. About that time Dothan Fire Engine 4, advanced life support, arrived. Treatment of the patient was underway and the ambulance began the journey to the hospital.

Multiple Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah ran emergency with the ambulance blocking intersections in order to allow the ambulance fast, safe and swift transport to the hospital. Not one time did the ambulance have to slow for traffic or intersections because of the Sheriff Department and EMA.

When the patient arrived at Southeast Alabama Medical Center the BEST Emergency Room Physician, Dr. Fred Pich was on duty. Pich started as a Paramedic with Pilcher Ambulance, then taught Paramedic at Wallace College. He then went to medical college and returned to Dothan as an Emergency Room Physician.

A top notch doctor.

There were high hopes because in transit to SAMC the Fire Medics reported a pulse. But for reasons that we shall never know GOD had different plans for Aron Eugene Dunn.

But from the emergency call standpoint, beginning in the 911 Center with the communications officers through responders, transport and hospital, this call went as it should. All resources in place, operative, all everyone giving it their all in all to save this young man's life.
