Each Friday starting June 16-July 28, Landmark Park will present Animal Adventures, a special one-hour educational program which provides a unique opportunity to learn about our natural world (No program June 23). Children ages 5 and older are encouraged to come with their families to see first-hand the wonder of native and exotic animals. Animal Adventure programs begin at 10 a.m. in the Park’s Interpretive Center Auditorium. Free with paid gate admission. Registration is required. Call 334-794-3452 to register.

June 16: Fantastic Fish and Where to Find Them

Rob Andress with the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Department will Present a program about common fish.  Not only will you get to see the fish that are naturally found in our local lakes and rivers, you will also be able to brush up on your fishing and casting techniques.

June 30: Dog Training Basics

Our four legged furry friends will be the star of this program as local canine specialist Renee Jones-Lewis, along with her canine teaching assistant, show visitors the correct way to interact with dogs. Park visitors will learn training tips they can easily take home and use with their own family pets.

July 7: Amphibians

Amphibians can be slimy and lay eggs, but they also have a lot of other interesting characteristics.  Join Jimmy Stiles as he talks about various amphibians including frogs, salamanders, and one big amphiuma.  Stiles has been involved in herpetology for over 25 years and is currently working on his PhD in Wildlife Sciences through Auburn University.

July 14: Homing Pigeons

Homing Pigeons are incredible birds which have an innate homing ability which allows them to return from incredible distances to their nesting area.  These birds have been used throughout history in several ways, including army messengers and to deliver medical information.  Join John Ross Helms, member of the Wiregrass Racing Pigeon Club, as he shares his 30+ years of experience raising and racing these spectacular birds.

July 21: Alligators

Tim Ward with the Alabama Department of Conservation will present a program on one of South Alabama’s most misunderstood creatures, the American Alligator.  A combination of slides, skins, and skulls, as well as a live alligator, will be used to illustrate and teach participants about the lifestyle and habitats of this unique animal.

July 28: Reptiles

Come learn from Page Whatley about these cold-blooded animals and why some of them are endangered. Visitors will have the opportunity to see some reptiles up close, including a Gopher Tortoise, Easter Indigo Snake, and several other reptiles native to the Wiregrass Region.
