DOTHAN - ASHFORD:     In Ashford the "Chief Clerk" is Amy Michelle Stokes Brunson.

The ruling members of the Ashford City Council stopped Ashford Mayor Grecu from signing checks. They stopped Ashford Mayor Grecu from being allowed to spend more than $ 500.00 a month without Ashford City Council approval.

What were they going to do on payroll? The "ruling" members of the Ashford City Council placed the Ashford "Chief" Clerk on the bank account along with a Ashford City Councilman.

This weekend Dothan Police arrested Amy Michelle Stokes Brunson, age 31, for a felony Theft of Property in the third degree. The allegations are shop lifting from a store in Wiregrass Commons Mall.

Allegations are there was merchandise in her pocketbook taken from the store in excess of the value that made it a felony. She was booked into the Dothan City Jail and then transferred to the Houston County Jail where bond was made.

From sources within the bowels of the City of Ashford have said Mayor Grecu has placed the Chief City Clerk on Administrative Leave pending the outcome of the case.

The "ruling" members of the Ashford City Council will have to hold a special meeting to determine the signatures on the account.

There has been a running feud in Ashford for the last several months. Mayor Grecu filed a lawsuit in the 20th Judicial Circuit assigned to Judge Mendheim against three sitting Ashford City Council members. The allegations are they passed resolutions or ordinances taking power away from the Mayor.

Several weeis ago Mayor Grecu read a statement and left the meeting. The Mayor Pro Tem had to take over. In the meeting the council voted to stop spending ability of the Mayor.

The case is pending still in the 20th Judicial Circuit Court.

SOMETHING ABOUT THE EASTSIDE OF HOUSTON COUNTY

Lately there has been something in some of the small municipalities across the Eastside of Houston County.

Columbia went through rock and roll with former Mayor Lanny Lancaster and his wife, along with actions of soon to be former Columbia Police Chief Shad Floyd. Recently the Columbia City Council voted to appoint Rhonda Freeman as Mayor.

Freeman will work to straighten things out. The City Clerk resigned and the Police Chief has resigned but is on Administrative Leave until November. That is when he will no longer be the Police Chief.

In Gordon the Mayor was arrested twice to do with city funds. The car the Mayor bought from the City of Gordon was impounded by the Houston County Sheriff Department. The water hydrants will not pump enough water in order for the fire department to use to save a burning structure.

In Kinsey, drama at the last council meeting. You have to know a lot of the back end of the story. Mayor Charles Douglas wife is the Chief City Clerk. The Mayor Pro Tem resigned as Mayor Pro Tem but maintains her position on the City Council.

The Kinsey City Council voted all expenditures over $ 250.00 has to come before the Kinsey City Council. Some are complaining they can not get an audit.

BUT TWO EASTSIDE MUNICIPALITIES CHURNING RIGHT ALONG DOING THINGS RIGHT

The City of Cowarts under the leadership of Mayor Randy Rowland and the City of Cottonwood under the leadership of Mayor Ken Hamilton. No drama. All seems to churn along as they should. No drama, just handling the people’s business as they should.

Need to include Webb. While they have had more than their share of drama, right now, all appears to be going well.

Under Mayor Billy Snell on the west side the Town of Taylor seems to be going ok. Need to make some changes in the court administration. But otherwise seems to churning good.

Under Mayor Joe Collins in Rehobeth, all is well because we do not hear anything. Same goes for Madrid. All quiet.

The eastside needs to take note from Mayor Rowland, Hamilton, Snell, and Collins.

Brunson will have an initial appearance before Presiding District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis in November.
