Ashford Downtown Redevelopment Authority Received a Grant

The Ashford Downtown Redevelopment Authority received a grant from Wiregrass Resource Conservation & Development Council and this community work day is made possible in part by the generous grant from WRC & D. This grant will allow for the renovations of McArthur Park and The Veteran’s Memorial Park to take place on March 9th at 8 A.M.


Before any renovations could begin, the existing area of the parks, needed to be cleaned up and a removal of the dilapidated bathrooms had to be demolished. We owe many thanks to our City of Ashford men for working so hard in the removal process and preparing the parks for our community work day on March 9th.


Thank you to our Ashford City Mayor and our City Council in your support of the efforts of the Utilities Director Richard Odom and his men to prepare the parks for the volunteer citizens of Ashford to work alongside the Ashford Downtown Redevelopment Authority and Ashford Area Chamber of Commerce in the rebuilding process. Our professional landscaper, Scotty Rumley laid out a landscaping plan for the parks.


The Smith’s True Value Hardware is donating supplies in the process and David’s Pizza has agreed to provide lunch for the work day. We owe many thanks to the Dearing McArthur family in the generous donation of The McArthur Park. We thank you for your support in this process. This is what a community is all about. When a city comes together, to make a greater change to better our town. We are blessed to have so many wonderful businesses coming together to provide supplies, food and services.


We are growing and growing together. We may live in a small town, but it is a small town with a big heart. This community work day is made possible by Wiregrass RC & D. We are grateful in receiving the grant that will rebuild our parks.


The grant will be used to better our community for our city, the citizens of the Ashford, and in the process of the redevelopment in downtown.
