Assault with a Deadly Weapon Victims Identified

DOTHAN – On Monday, July 23, 2018, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) responded to an assault with a deadly weapon investigation in the 700 block of Barbour County Road 17, at the request of Sheriff Leroy Upshaw. The assault resulted in the death of a male and a female adult.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding an assault, and Deputies arrived approximately ten minutes later. Deputies found the victim to be suffering from injuries believed to have been caused by gunfire and an edged weapon. The victim was transported by air to a hospital in Montgomery and later died.
It was determined the suspect, who was outside the residence, sustained what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the torso and was deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Ralph Williams Jr., of Ozark, Alabama. The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Shaleka Russaw, of Louisville, Alabama. A motive for the shooting is unclear, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The completed SBI investigation will be turned over to the Barbour County District Attorney, and no additional information is available at this time.
