Auburn Mayor And Council Was Not Supporting City Manager In Waiting But Dothan Is Hiring Him

AUBURN: Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba and the 6 Dwarfs are set to hire Kevin Cowper as City Manager on Tuesday.

Kevin Cowper is currently the Assistant City Manager of Auburn Alabama. A position Kevin Cowper has held since 2007.

As RSN has been researching Kevin Cowper we just ran across a February 14, 2019 news article in Opelika - Auburn news that has created a huge question.

The Auburn City Council has given the current City Manager a $ 20,000.00 a year salary increase bringing him to an annual salary of $ 215,000.00. The reasons given for the raise is because the City of Auburn will be searching for a new City Manager in the near future.

The quotes of the Mayor on February 14, 2019 are:

Anders said. “Having him here for one more year gives us a little more opportunity to further glean and understand the role of the city manager and the person we would like to choose to replace Jim Buston.”

Now cause for alarm.

Kevin Cowper has been the Assistant City Manager of Auburn Alabama since 2007.

So in 2019 the Mayor and Council extended the current City Manager of Auburn contract for two more years and a 20% raise.

The reason is to assist the Mayor and Council in the recruiting and selection of a new City Manager for Auburn Alabama.

The puzzle - Cowper has been Assistant City Manager since 2007 which should be a position of "City Manager In Waiting". So why is he not?

There was no mention of Kevin Cowper even being considered as the City Manager In Waiting. A huge puzzle for me. Why since he has been Assistant City Manager since 2007?

Now Dothan comes along, let's see...31 or 32 days later and offers Auburn's Assistant City Manager, who the City of Auburn was not considering as heir apparent to City Manager, a salary package of well over - well over $ 220,000.00.

The citizens were PROMISED a time to meet and greet candidates. That has never happened. RSN smoked out the three the Dothan Commission were in pursuit of. And while the commission was in Washington D.C. RSN smoked this one out, in fact on March 7.

So where has this process been in the open? Where and when was the meet and greet with the candidates, which means plural as in the ones considered. Where and when is the meet and greet prior to the vote?

Every time a citizen will ask for something the elected officials answer will be that you will have to ask the City Manager.

You say TRUST ME. Go back and read the promise and ask the question to yourself, TRUST ME.
