Bentley's Statement About Being The Best Governor Has Some Merit

ALABAMA:    In the Dothan Eagle former Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was called "delusional".

That was based on a statement by Bentley " I'm the best Governor Alabama ever had by far".

The statement was taken when Bentley was conducting a free cancer screening. Bentley asked was the camera off and talked with the reporter freely. Somewhat the statement was taken out of context of the entire conversation.

However some of what Bentley said is a true statement. Not sure of the "best ever" but based on comments from Alabama Governor Kay Ivey yesterday in Dothan, Bentley could rank towards the top.

When Governor Ivey was in Dothan about a new industry of 30 jobs the Governor said that was her 100th day as Alabama Governor. She went further to day that Alabama has the lowest unemployment rate in the past 10 years.

There is no way Governor Ivey can take credit for Alabama to have the lowest unemployment rate. It is a direct result of the work the Robert Bentley administration did over the past 7 years.

So while some are being critical of Bentley's statement, when you think of what Governor Kay Ivey said just yesterday, Bentley is to be given credit for the unemployment rate.

FROM AL.COM

It's true. At 4.9 percent, Alabama is enjoying its lowest rate of unemployment since April 2008 when it sat at 5 percent - low enough that former Gov. Robert Bentley would be able to take a salary had he not been forced to resign. In fact, not since sustained periods of low unemployment in the late-1990s and the mid-2000s, has the state seen such figures, according to Department of Labor records that go back as far 1976.

"Our wage and salary employment, which is based on a survey given to Alabama's employers asking them how many positions they are supporting, is currently measuring over two million, which hasn't occurred since June 2008," said Alabama Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington in an email to AL.com. "Our numbers are indicating that Alabama is currently doing very well on the jobs front, and we certainly hope to continue that trend."
