DOTHAN:    All court cases in Alabama, the final resting place in State Court is the Alabama Supreme Court. And the Alabama Supreme Court consists of 9 Justices.


After searching resumes and conducting interviews across the State of Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey reached to the 20th Judicial Circuit and selected Dothan native Brady E. ( Brad ) Mendheim as an Associate Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.


Brad Mendheim is a home town guy. He graduated from Dothan City Schools - Northview High School. After graduating from Auburn University with high honors Brad Mendheim attended Cumberland School of Law, graduating in 1993. 


Brad Mendheim is the son of the late Brady and Nancy Mendheim. His parents were highly respected in the Dothan Community, his dad being a long time pharmacist in Dothan.


Brad Mendheim, 23 years ago, became one with his wife Michelle. Brad found Michelle in Piedmont Alabama. Brad and Michelle Mendheim have three sons.


Brad and Michelle, along with their three sons, attend Dothan First Baptist Church. While serving Christ through his church, Brad serves as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Church Trustee.


Brad Mendheim served in the 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for 7 years as an Assistant District Attorney. In 2001 Brad Mendheim ran for election and was elected by the registered voters of Houston County as District Court Judge. In 2009 Brad Mendheim ran for and was elected by the registered voters of Houston and Henry County as Circuit Court Judge.


While serving the 20th Judicial Circuit various Chief Justices of the Alabama Supreme Court to preside over more than 250 cases in more than 40 counties across Alabama.


Today was the INVESTITURE of the Honorable Brad Mendheim as an Associate Supreme Court Justice. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey was present, as was Justice Mendheim's family, friends, 20th Judicial Circuit Court and District Court Judges, Clerks of Court serving both Houston and Henry County.


Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis and Henry County District Court Judge Derek Peterson, 20th Circuit Court Judges Larry Anderson, Mike Conaway, Butch Binford, Kevin Moulton and Todd Derrick, Houston County Circuit Court Clerk Carla Woodall and Henry County Circuit Court Clerk Shirlene Vickers, 33rd Judicial Circuit Court Judge Bill Filmore and Dale County District Court Judge Stuart Smith, Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah. Also attending today Area Sheriff's to include Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza, Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms, and Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton. Also on hand was 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Pat Jones.


Also attending Retired 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Edward Jackson. Judge Jackson spoke before the swearing in as someone who has watched Brad Mendheim grow up, be active in church where they both served as deacons. Spoke as someone who has had Brad Mendheim try cases before him, and served with him as a Judge.


Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis administered the Oath of Office to Justice Mendheim. The oath was followed by a "robing" by Judge Mendheim's wife and children. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey presented Justice Mendheim with the Certificate of Commission.


Justice Brad Mendheim then gave some remarks. He spoke of his thankfulness to each that had a part in his service over the years. Justice Mendheim thanked retired 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Doug Valeska for the years he served as an Assistant District Attorney. He thanked Alabama Governor Kay Ivey for the confidence she placed in him as she and the interview committee made the decision to appoint him.


Justice Brad Mendheim was sworn in on the Monday following his appointment on January 22. He has been working as a Justice since that day. The ceremony today marked the public INVESTITURE Ceremony.


NOTE:    On June 5th Brad Mendheim needs your vote and support. While appointed by the Governor to serve, Justice Mendheim has to seek statewide election. With that also comes the need for financial support for a statewide campaign. This is not something I was asked to mention but something I felt the need to mention.
