HOUSTON COUNTY:     In Houston County Grand Jury meets every two months. This past September 20th a Houston County Grand Jury reported out.

You are arrested one of three ways: (1) on view by an officer (2) on an arrest warrant

NOTE:  These two ways your case begins in District Court. There you will have an arraignment before a District Court Judge where the Judge will advise you of your rights, ask do you have a lawyer, goes over your finances if you can afford a lawyer, and if not appoints one for you. The Judge covers what you are charged with, the sentence range. Do you want a preliminary hearing and if so schedules one.

The third way you are arrested (3) is a Grand Jury Indictment. This way you begin in Circuit Court and your first court appearance is an arraignment before a Circuit Court Judge.

All felonies in Alabama are required to go before a Grand Jury in order to proceed. A waste of time, money and energies. Grand Juries consist of 18 people who meet in secret. They often only hear from the witnesses and not the accused. While the accused can appear before a Grand Jury a good lawyer will not let you. But a good Grand Jury foreman would kick the prosecutor from the Grand Jury Room because the Grand Jury Foreman is the boss and not the District Attorney.

But not many know that.

Anyway these are the cases docketed in the Houston County Clerk of Court Office on this date 09/25/2018. A large amount of Circuit Criminal Cases are docketed only because Grand Jury reported out. The Clerk's have to docket the cases moving from District Court to Circuit Court.
