CHATTAHOCHEE RIVER - COLUMBIA - GORDON - HOUSTON COUNTY:    The current level of the Chattahochee River at 8:00 AM EST is 94.46.

Flood Stage is 106.

Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah has kept a weekend vigil ( must mention his off time and holiday time ) on the Chattachochee River in both Columbia and Gordon. Judah has informed the residents of the potential of the river rising and possible flooding.

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers have done a fantastic job of managing the water flow and keeping the river levels not to flood the residents.

Joining Director Judah all weekend, Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza has personally been over in Columbia and Gordon, Columbia Mayor Rhonda Freeman, Columbia Fire Chief Clint Wright, Gordon Fire Chief Justin McAllister, Gordon Police Chief Jim Mock, and the members of the Houston County Commission, most especially Commissioners Doug Sinqfield and Ricky Herring.

While the potential existed for evacuation and flooding, Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah kept a watchful eye personally on the river levels and management. He alerted to the residents to keep them informed but not to cause panic.

You know in situations as the river level of the Chattahochee River, as Emergency Management Director, you are in a delima. You do not want to cause alarm but want to raise the awareness of the people who will be affected. And this issue with the river, some not at the river go "what are you talking about".

So do you cause awareness. And at what point do you say, move.

The office is called EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT. Some want you to think it is sit in the office and do nothing. 

Nothing in the title of EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT reads "meterologist", "weather man" or "river prediction analyst". 

But the Emergency Management Director has to take the information provided to him by the professionals, such as National Weather Service, and provide the most accurate information possible.

The Emergency Management Director also has to make sure the resources needed for emergencies are in place and ready for deployment should they be needed.

During the two years Chris Judah has served as Director of Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management, he has worked day and night to bring to the citizens of Dothan and Houston County a proactive EMA Office.
