DOTHAN: It is being a well kept secret of ”who“ and how many have applied for Dothan City Manager.
The current City Manager, Mike West, has announced his retirement towards the end of the year. Sources within the bowels of the Dothan Civic Center have indicated the selection field has been narrowed to 2 or 3 candidates.
Those same bowels have indicated that Dothan Commissioners will begin the interview process in the next few days.
So far it is has been the history of the City of Dothan to go out of town to employ a City Manager. The 7 making the choice have never felt anyone from Dothan ( Houston County ) were capable and smart enough to be the City Manager of Dothan Alabama. And looking at some of the elected officials across Dothan and Houston County, we tend to agree. WAIT - the officials in the City of Dothan, other than the Mayor and Commissioners, they were selected by the City Manager.
That Could be the problem.
Dothan City Manager Mike West went to Marianna and hired a Information Technology Director. It took him four years to make the decison and he screwed it up just like he did his most important hire - police chief when he hired John Powell.
So Mayor Saliba ( wake him up and tell him he is Mayor ) and his 6 amigos, might want to search Dothan Alabama for someone to be the City Manager. Everyone in Dothan is not stupid and someone is capable of leading Dothan into the future.
