Dothan (September 27, 2017)  In commemoration of World Habitat Day, Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity will be building walls in Dothan for future Habitat homeowners, to help bring attention to the need for adequate housing around the world and in the Wiregrass on Monday, October 2.

Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity will be working with employees of Coleman Worldwide Moving to build the walls for the future home of Willie and Candice Blake and their three children.  The volunteers will be gathering at 9:00 a.m. to begin building the walls at Coleman Worldwide Moving in Midland City.

Amy Schutz, Executive Director with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, said “The ultimate goal of Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate substandard housing in the Wiregrass. We work towards that goal with each family we help through each home we build. We are not a quick fix for the housing problem, but a long-term solution to homelessness in the four counties we serve. Without the help of businesses such as Coleman Worldwide Moving and the Coleman Family Foundation, we would not be building our 128h home and housed 135 families in the last 27 years.”

Habitat for Humanity International and its partners will take part in the U.N.-designated day, observed every year on the first Monday in October, to advocate for better shelter around the world.

For information on upcoming builds and volunteer opportunities with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, contact Emily Brannon at (334) 792-8453 or visit our website atwww.wiregrasshabitat.org.
