Late Thursday evening Columbia Officer Barnes found a tree across the road at Columbia Dam. The tree was a large tree blocking the roadway.
Officer Barnes contacted Road and Bridge but they advised it was not their road. The it belonged to the Corp of Engineers.
Columbia then contacted Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah.
Clay County Sheriff Department in Ft. Gaines Georgia was contacted for a after hours number to the United States Army Corp of Engineers. Clay County Sheriff Department said since the dam was in Alabama we needed to contact Alabama. The number they gave was Abbeville Police. They had no after hours number.
The decision was then made that rather than waste time on a merry go round that Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management would just handle it.
EMA contacted EMA Volunteer Nick Stringer who brought two chainsaws. EMA contacted EMA Volunteer/Columbia Town Council Member Jesse Ingram. He called two members of Columbia Volunteer Fire who responded with chain saws.
The tree was cut. Then Jesse Ingram took his Ford F-250 and EMA Rickey Stokes took his Ford -150. Stokes hooked a strap around the tree and connected to the winch and pulled the tree.EMA/Councilman Ingram took his F-250 and pushed the tree and we were able to get off the road and clear the roadway.
