COLUMBIA - HOUSTON COUNTY: Today there was a meeting between SARCOA, members of the 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Office and Investigators with Houston County Sheriff Department. The subject of the meeting, as we understand, Columbia Mayor Lanny Lancaster and his wife.
Since Columbia residents learned of some 900 forged signatures which caused the future suspension of the Senior Citizens Center, the residents of Columbia have been in a uproar.
Following the letters being made public the Mayor's wife resigned as manager of the Senior Citizens Center. A special meeting of the Columbia Town Council resulted in the payment SARCOA almost $ 5,000.00. This payment was what SARCOA claimed was owed in forged signatures.
While all of the council voted for the payment not all council members agreed with paying it. However they voted to pay in order to hopefully save the senior program.
Last week a large amount of Columbia citizens met to discuss how to handle the Mayor Lanny Lancaster, well how to remove the Lancaster as Mayor of Columbia. The first way was to get SARCOA to accept their financial responsibility and make a complaint to Houston County Sheriff Department.
With that complaint from SARCOA then the Houston County Sheriff Department could begin a criminal investigation into the some 900 reported forged signatures. While the citizens are the "real victims" the complaint will have to come from SARCOA to cause an investigation.
According to some sources documents from the Senior Citizens documents are missing.
The citizens want an investigation and demand the investigation. The citizens also demand that SARCOA pursue the matter to the fullest extent possible.
