COLUMBIA: In a special called Town Council Meeting in Columbia the 5 voting members of the Council voted to suspend Columbia Police Chief Shad Floyd, without pay and terminate his employment with the Town of Columbia.
Floyd has 10 days to request a hearing or he is terminated.
Floyd negotiated an agreement with Columbia Mayor Rhonda Freeman to be on leave with pay from September 9th through November 2. Floyd had submitted his resignation to be effective November 2. In that agreement he turned in his police vehicle and equipment and was not to answer calls.
Earlier this week Floyd is reported to have rescinded his resignation and wanted to remain as Columbia Police Chief.
The Town Council called a special meeting tonight. The 5 members voted to terminate. Freeman did not vote as Mayor saying her vote was not required because the majority had voted.
Floyd can request a hearing in 10 days. If none is requested then he is gone. If he does, a hearing will be held.
