Birmingham, AL; October 30, 2018) - This holiday season, theatre-goers of all ages can look forward to experiencing the magic of live theatre on BCT’s stages. From Peter’s adventurous first day through his new-found snowy world, to Peter Pan soaring off to the land where children never have to grow up, excitement and wonder await this December for audiences of all ages.


“These productions are about making magic happen with ordinary things,” says Brandon Bruce, BCT Executive Artistic Director, “Growing up is both wonderful and terrifying; as Peter and Peter explore their worlds, they discover both the beautiful and painful. Their wonder of discovery will touch audiences of all ages this holiday season.”


Peter Pan, adapted by Douglas Irvine, based on the book by J.M. Barrie Directed by Brandon Bruce December 1st, 8th, 9th & 15th @ 2:30pm, and December 8th @ 7:30pm This fresh adaptation of the classic J.M. Barrie tale has everything you love – Wendy and the Lost Boys, the dastardly Captain Hook, and the boy who never grows up.


Let your imagination soar as - through the magic of shadow puppetry - Peter Pan and his friends sail through the night sky to Neverland. Daring sword fights, tricky fairies, and a very hungry, ticking crocodile await in a spectacular production that's perfect for the holidays. Featuring Lacey Alexander, Carlton V. Bell, Tahauny Cleghorn, Jesse Kortus, Meagan Oliver and Brandon Mitchell as Peter Pan.


Brandon Bruce (Director, Peter Pan) is enjoying his second season with BCT. Prior to moving to Birmingham in 2016, Brandon served as the Artistic Director for Colonial Williamsburg's theatrical programming, as well as Chicago's Strawdog and BackStage Theatres. Previous directing credits include Cinderella, James and the Giant Peach and Einstein is a Dummy (Birmingham Children’s Theatre), The Three Musketeers (Magic City Theatre Festival), Scapin and The Servant of Two Masters (Colonial Williamsburg), The Little Foxes at Chicago's Shattered Globe Theatre (3 Joseph Jefferson Nominations, including Best Production), The Skin of Our Teeth (2 Joseph Jefferson Nominations), The Ruling Class, and Denise Druczweski's Inferno at BackStage, and Tango at Chopin Theatre (Best Director from Chicago's Orgie Awards).


Brandon earned an MFA in Directing from the University of Iowa (as the Iowa Arts Directing Fellow) and a BFA in Acting from Kent State University. The Snowy Day and other stories by Jerome Hairston, based on the books by Ezra Jack Keats Directed by Laura Byland December 1st, 8th & 15th @ 10:00am & 12:00pm Based on stories by Caldecott Award-winning author Ezra Jack Keats, The Snowy Day and other stories celebrates the magic and boundless possibilities of the first snowfall!


Follow young Peter and his friends as they explore the world around them. From learning how to whistle to thrilling encounters with treasure, the delightful moments of childhood are perfectly captured in this imaginative musical play. Starring Najah Ali as Peter, Andrew Brown, Catherine Patton and Nikita M. Staggs.


Laura Byland (Director, The Snowy Day) is a Professor of Theatre and Director of the Theatre for Youth program at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. She is actively engaged in professional theatre being the founding Executive Director of The Scissortail Children’s Theatre, directing productions at Birmingham Children’s Theatre and The Virginia Samford Theatre, and directing Theatre for Youth productions at Samford.


She has developed outreach activities for local, state-wide, and international groups, using theatre as the basis for developing school curriculum and ministry activities. Laura is also an active member of several national theatre associations and holds or has held leadership roles in many of them over the years.


She is currently the Vice Chair of the Theatre for Youth Division of the Southeastern Theatre Conference. Laura also volunteers as a drama teacher working with physically and intellectually disabled adults and has developed the first theatre company in Birmingham dedicated to giving those with disabilities the opportunity to perform. Laura firmly believes “theatre changes lives” and is committed to being a part of that change.
