Commissioner Elect Ricky Herring Meets With SAMC CEO Rick Sutton

HOUSTON COUNTY:      Houston County Commissioner Elect Ricky Herring spent his day visiting with Southeast Alabama Medical Center’s Chief Executive Officer Rick Sutton.

The Houston County Commission appoints 12 of the 13 members to the SAMC Board of Directors also known has the Houston County Health Care Authority.

Herring is quoted as saying “ had a great day at SAMC with CEO Rick Sutton. He was very open and candid in discussing the decisions that have been made as well as his vision for the future of SAMC.”

Herring said “ I was very impressed with his professionalism, his honesty and his willingness to the ideas and opinions that I presented as well as others in attendance. I look forward to working with him in the future as we continue to grow the healthcare profession in Houston County”.

The District 3 Commissioner has three appointments. Currently those appointments are Chester Sowell, Taylor Knight and Lance Shephard. It is not known when their current terms expire and appointments will be made.

Herring will not assume the duties of Houston County Commissioner until after the November 7, 2018 election. While unopposed in the November election it has to pass before taking office.

While Commissioners take office following the November election other offices do not change until January 2019.
