HOUSTON COUNTY: Following this morning's Houston County Commission Meeting, District 3 Houston County Commissioner Jackie Battles announced his bid for a third term as Houston County Commissioner.
Jackie Battles has served as a Houston County Commissioner for the past 7 years. Battles said it has been a privilege of being District 3's voice while serving on the Houston County Commission.
Battles said he bring's proven leadership to the Commission. That he has seen the importance of the county, city and other agencies working together to accomplish goals/
During Battles service as a Houston County Commission he had the pleasure to serve as a Board Member of the Dothan - Houston County E911 Board. Together the board made necessary re-alignments. The board also constructed a state of the art Emergency Operations Center where the Houston County Sheriff Communications, Dothan Police and Fire Communications, all 17 Volunteer Fire and 5 EMS Communications and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management operate together.
Battles said when first elected one of his priorities when elected was to bring jobs. In partnership with others ACOM - the medical school was born. Wayne Farms and Commercial Jet at the Dothan Regional Airport brought many jobs. Other new businesses include Advantage Resourcing, Next Level Generations, Glasstream, and International Beam.
Battles said when he became a Houston County Commissioner unemployment was at 9%. Today unemployment is down to 3.4%.
Battles said he has focused on results while serving as a Houston County Commission. Battles said more roads have been paved in District 3 then in any other district. Some of those roads are Fortner Street, Sanders Road, South Park, Trawick Road, Memphis Church Road and others. Two libraries have been constructed during Battles term.
Battles is proud of the changes in the one arm garbage trucks. Battles said it created a more efficient, cleaner working environment and lowered Houston County's liability insurance.
All of this accomplished without increasing what the citizen's of Houston County have to pay in fees and taxes.
Battles said he wants to concentrate public safety and infrastructure in the third term. He supports law enforcement, the school systems, and promote an environment that attracts and retains businesses for economic growth.
Battles ask for your vote on June 5th.
