COUNTY CORONER: How Would You Like To Make An Additional $ 2,688,000.00 Plus $ 72,2000 More Over Four Years

HOUSTON COUNTY:    In 2018 an average funeral cost is $ 14,000.00.

A funeral home owner being the County Coroner, picking up an extra 4 bodies a month for your funeral home by being the County Coroner, means an additional gross revenue of $ 672,000.00 a year. 

In four years being County Coroner and owning a funeral home means,          

      $ 2,688,000.00 Additional revenue.

That is the exact reason a funeral home owner wants to be the County Coroner.

And the reason why a funeral home owner will spend 5 figures getting a job that pays $ 18,000.00 per year - or $ 72,000.00 for a total of four years.

In Houston County there are two choices for County Coroner:

(1) Robert Byrd - a funeral home owner/moritician who is the current County Coroner.

(2) Eddie Ingram - retired law enforcement officer not affiliated with any funeral home.

Not being critical of Robert Byrd. He is a terrific moritician. 

But the funeral home owner as County Coroner  only allows employees of the County Coroner‘s funeral home to serve as Deputy Coroner. 

Currently the Houston County Coroner will leave a body at the place of death and not wait until the families funeral home of choice arrives if the berreaved family does not select the County Coroner’s funeral home.

Not being critical of Robert Byrd. He is a terrific mortician. 

But the County Coroner will not tranport a body in the County Van as County Coroner to another funeral home. If the County Coroner did transport the deceased to the funeral home of choice for a family, it would be showing respect for the deceased and bereaved, if the family does not select County Coroner’s funeral home, the body can just lay on the dirt until that funeral home arrives.

Just a plain statement of fact.

June 5th the registered voters of Houston County must make a decision:

1. The registered voters will decide there is no conflict of interest in a funeral home owner being the Coroner and potentially picking up an additional $ 2,688,000,00 over four years.

2. It is a conflict of interest and time to end that conflict.

Not being critical of Robert Byrd, but Being a mortician and being County Coroner only equals conflict of interest. A moritician does not qualify a person to serve as County Coroner.

A funeral director may work at a funeral home or be an independent employee.

The most important question many people want to know today is “how much does a funeral cost?”  The cost of a traditional funeral has been steadily increasing for a number of years now, and the average funeral today can cost around $10,000 in total.  However, more folks are demanding cheaper funeral options.  Not only can many families not afford this kind of outlay, more still are just electing to save this money on funeral costs to spend elsewhere.
