COURT WATCH: TODAY in the 20th Judicial Circuit of Houston and Henry County in Court.
At 2 PM today in the first floor jury assembly room of the Houston County Courthouse the Honorable John John Steensland will take the oath of office as Circuit Judge of the 20th Judicial Circuit. Steensland will replace 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Michael Conaway.
Conaway was appointed by the slime ball former Alabama Governor Bob Riley. Following his appointment Conaway ran unopposed. Alabama law prohibits a person seeking a Judgeship after age 70. When Conaway sought election six years ago he was age 69. So this election He had exceed age 70 by a number of years and was barred by law from seeking another term.
Steensland was elected and will be the youngest Judge in the 20th Judicial Circuit.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2019 HOUSTON AND HENRY COUNTY COURT
Honorable Benjamin Lewis will begin with 9 persons on the first appearance docket. This docket consists of persons in the Houston County Jail who have not made bond yet. These hearings are held via closed circuit TV from the Houston County Jail to the courtroom assigned to Judge Lewis on the second floor of the Houston County Courthouse.
Following first appearance Judge Lewis has 11 District Criminal Cases on his docket, 8 Protection From Abuse Hearings, 1 Small Claims case and 2 traffic cases.
Honorable Butch Binford has on his docket one Circuit Civil case and 1 domestic relations case. Judge Binford also handles juvenile issues of which are not public and dockets can not be seen.
Honorable Kevin Moulton Has two Circuit Criminal cases on his docket. One scheduled at 8:30 AM and one at 11:30 AM.
Honorable Larry Anderson has one Circuit Civil case scheduled at 8:30 AM and a 10:00 AM domestic relations case scheduled.
Honorable Todd Derrick has two dockets scheduled, one being Circuit Criminal Cases and one District Criminal Cases. Those cases include pleas before indictment for Obstruction of Justice and Possession and Receicing Controlled Substance.
HENRY COUNTY DISTRICT COURT
Honorable Derrick Peterson has no court docket available. But as does Judge Binford does, Judge Peterson handles juvenile issues and Children In Need Of Supervision cases of which are confidential and no dockets are available for viewing.
In the 20th Judicial Circuit, Houston and Henry County, more than 1100 cases have been before the Judges this week. Those 1100 cases were in just two days.
