DALEVILLE, AL (WSFA) - The Daleville Council recently approved the purchase of new body cameras for the police department.
The roughly $13,980 purchase of the 20 Axon body cameras comes after the department tested the product over the last year.
Chief William Powell said the department decided to go with this system, because the quality of the camera is much better than what the department used in the past. He said the previous cameras would often cut off as officers were processing scenes and the video and audio was poor. Powell said having working cameras is important for public and officer safety.
“With our modern age we live in now. We want everything the officers are doing recorded. Any time they meet with the public - traffic stops, any house calls, or complaints. We have everything videoed and good audio,” said Powell.
