On 04/22/2017 at approximately 11:00 p.m. Patrol Officers were sent to the 700 block of Alabama Avenue in reference to a welfare check on an individual and two children. Information was relayed to the City of Dothan/Houston County Emergency Operations Center that the individual, Lorenzo McCullough, was suicidal and was threatening harm to the two children ages two and four. McCullough nor the children were at the apartment.
At approximately 12:15 a.m. Officers observed McCullough walking in Johnson Homes alone. He fled when Officers attempted to speak with him. McCullough ran into the back door of another apartment and was found hiding in a closet. The children’s whereabouts were unknown
Multiple Investigators, Patrol Officers, a Dothan Fire Department Engine Company, and Houston County Deputies began canvassing the area looking for the children. Dothan K9 and a Houston County bloodhound searched the area.
At approximately 02:00 a.m. the children were located alive inside a locked brick waste container area at Johnson Homes. Both children were covered in ants. Both children were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Investigators have arrested and charged 25 year old Lorenzo McCullough, of Alabama Avenue, with two counts of Torture or Willful Abuse of a Child Under 18, Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement Officers, and Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle. McCullough currently has no bond.
All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
