Dothan Man Who Was Sentenced Today Acting As His Own Attorney

Dothan AL -  A Dothan man who acted as his own attorney was convicted Wednesday of murder and sentenced to 50-years in prison.


It took the jury about five hours of deliberations to find Andrea Flagg (32) guilty of shooting James Lee Gillard (33), to death. Dothan police say the two men had been involved in an ongoing dispute.


Gillard was shot in the back December 12, 2016. Cell phone video showed Flagg standing near Gillard’s body immediately after he was fatally wounded.


Despite pitfalls pointed out by Houston County Circuit Judge Larry Anderson Flagg chose to represent himself during this week’s trial. Following conviction he was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
