DOTHAN:    Dothan 911 Center, Dothan Police, Dothan Fire, Pilcher Ambulance were busy all afternoon. Both before and during the rain.

3:25 PM. A motor vehicle accident in the 4300 block of Montgomery Highway. Moderate injuries.

2:25 PM. An assault on Rosedale Terrace in Dothan.

1:10 PM.  Motor vehicle accident in the 3300 block of South Oates Street. Minor injuries.

Also about 9 medical emergency calls and a fire alarm. All emergency services in the City of Dothan have been busy.

HATS OFF to the 911 Center. Often times forgotten but the 911 Center is THE MOST IMPORTANT vital link to emergency services. The women and men which work in the 911 Centers ARE THE LINK which connects citizens to the emergencies and emergency responders to the citizens.

It is the 911 Center that steps people through emergency medical treatment while EMS and Fire are rolling.

It is the 911 Center that obtains information to make sure the responding units have the information so they are prepared for what they are walking in.

They must multi task, remain calm, and direct all Police - Fire and EMS Services.

In Dothan - Houston County, we have a super 911 staff. Also in the other municipalities and counties, as I listen to them they all do a fantastic job.

The 911 staff members are UNDER PAID for what they have to do and the constant multi tasking they have to do. Often times Law Enforcement - Fire and EMS do not have the full appreciation for the 911 Center. And in a lot of agencies the 911 Center is treated as red headed step children when in fact they ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT vital link in the public safety organization.

Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish is in charge of the Dothan Police - Fire 911 Center and Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza is in charge of the Houston County Sheriff 911 Center for Sheriff Department, all municipalities across Houston County with exception of Dothan Police, all EMS across Houston County, all volunteer fire and UNPAID PROFESSIONAL FIRE units that cover Houston County, and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management.

They do an outstanding job fo rthe citizens and guests of Dothan and Houston County.

Remember - Houston County is made up of about 587 square miles. The City of Dothan only has somewhere about 68 square miles of the 587 square miles.

Dothan is IN Houston County, not Houston County in Dothan.

Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance respond to somewhere around 15,000 calls per year. The 17 Volunteer Fire and UNPAID PRoFESSIONAL FIRE, the EMS, respond to somewhere around 6,800 calls in the some 519 square miles they are responsible for.

Dothan Fire is great to serve as mutual aid assistance across Houston County when advanced life support is needed or additional assistance in structure fires.
