Driver in Elmore County crash that killed 2-year-old charged

ELMORE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - A driver in an Elmore County crash that killed a 2-year-old has been charged with reckless murder.
According to ALEA Cpl. Jesse Thornton, 28-year-old Tierra Leonard of Opelika, the driver of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in which the child was a passenger, is charged with reckless murder and first degree assault. Leonard was booked in the Elmore County Jail Tuesday on a $70,000 bond.
The crash happened at 3:45 p.m. Saturday on Flat Rock Road (CR 73) near the Friendship Community, about five miles west of Tallassee. It happened when the Malibu collided with a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado.
