Drug Trafficking Bond Reduced From $ 1.5 Million to $ 60,000

HOUSTON COUNTY:    On May 3, 2017 Houston County Sheriff Deputies arrested Demirth Ann Jackson of Meridian Street for Drug Trafficking. According to court records Jackson was arrested with 15 pounds of Cannabis.

At the time of Jackson arrest the bond was set at $ 1.5 million dollars.

This morning a bond hearing was held. Jackson was represented by Attorney Derek Yarbrough. After a bond hearing Jackson’s bond went from $ 1.5 million to $ 60,000.00.

Part of the reason for the reduction is the failure of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. It takes years for drug reports to be returned from the failing agency. And the judges ( which I do not blame them ) will not make a person sit in jail with such high bonds.

In this case the authorities believe that Jackson was a runner for a much larger drug dealer. That she had the drugs because he could not afford to get caught.

The Forensic Sciences, once a premier agency, is now a complete failure and no one is doing anything about it.
