Elba Police Testify to Alan Benefield APOST Board

ELBA:    WTVY TV about two hours ago live streamed a former ELBA Police Officer testifying about cover up in the Elba Police Department.


APOST ( Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training ) had three investigators conduct investigations into the Elba Police Department. The Chief of Police resigned.


APOST is headed by Alan Benefield, former Ozark Police Chief. 


Today the former officers testified to APOST in Montgomery. The Benefield Board - Sheriff Jimmy Abbett, Chief Lyle D. Mitchell, Chief John W. Anderson, Sheriff Sam Cochran, Chief Bill Partidge, Sheriff William Sharp, Chief Ashley Welborn.


Elba Police heard APOST was coming to Elba to check officer credentials. The department had not qualified the officers on the firing range. Allegations are Elba Police falsified records of training and then lied to APOST about the training records.


Following the testimony the Board adjourns to an Executive Session where they will make a decision.
