Elberta Police Chief Stan DeVane is Home Following a Horseback Riding Accident

MOBILE, AL (WALA) -Injured Elberta Police Chief, Stan DeVane is resting at home now. He flew in to Gulf Shore Thursday afternoon, August 10, 2017 where he was met by friends and coworkers. DeVane has been recovering from broken ribs and pneumonia after a horseback riding accident in Wyoming in July.
It was a welcoming party full of smiles for Chief DeVane at the airport in Gulf Shores. A local businessman offered the use of his private jet to fly the Police Chief and his wife straight home from Colorado. He’s been through a lot in the last month. It all started on a trail ride while on vacation in the mountains of Wyoming. DeVane said they were 20 miles from base camp.
“The horse I was riding just went to the rodeo with me,” DeVane recalled. “Didn’t give me no warning. Didn’t give me any chance to adjust in the saddle or nothing and when I come to, I was laying on the ground face down.”
It took several hours to get DeVane medevac’d out of the bush with seven broken ribs, but that was just the beginning of his problems. His wife, Deborah recalls when pneumonia set in.
