FAMILY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT STILL BAFFLED AFTER TWO YEARS AND NO CLUES

Tuesday, July 21, 2015 was the last day that Charles Childree was ever seen. He was, by all accounts such a sweet and innocent person. It is unthinkable that anyone would want to harm him. But someone must have. Members of the community and members of the family are just amazed that after two years, no one has yet come forward with any information about this case.

Charles Childree was born approximately 2 and 1/2 months prematurely and the doctor who delivered him (at home) told his parents that he had virtually no chance of survival, but his parents had other plans. Charles was the youngest of 8 children and his mother had developed a fast growing tumor which caused his premature birth.

He weighed about 1 and 1/2 pounds and was kept alive in a bed with hot water bottles because there was no incubator available. He was between 4 and 5 years of age before he was able to walk because of his tiny stature. Charles was mentally and physically challenged, but very capable of winning hearts.

Charles lived alone in his home near Ozark between two other homes occupied by family members who all kept a close eye on him. But on July 21, 2015, nothing seemed wrong. The lights were on, the doors were unlocked, there was no sign of struggle or burglary. So what happened to sweet Charles?

The members of this closely-knit family are heartbroken and weary. One sibling passed away in June and yet this mystery still looms over a grieving family and the community that was once Charles' home.

Anyone who has any information concerning this matter should contact the Dale County Sheriff's Office at (334) 774-5111 or the Dale County Sheriff's Office Crime Tips HOTline at (334)774-2335.
