DOTHAN: Today is the 71st National Peanut Festival Parade. The Family Dollar Store on East Main and Palm Jean Street was not in the parade mood.
A man parked in the parking lot, he said, before Family Dollar opened for the day. He walked down the parade route where the tractors were staged.
When he returned Family Dollar was open and his car was on a tow truck.
From the time he arrived until he got back Family Dollar had written on a poster sheet No Parking for Customers Only and Cars Would be Towed. It was taped to a pole in the parking lot.
The man was disorderly and Dothan Police were called. The man said the sign was not there when he parked but Police said nothing they can do. It is private property and the sign is there now.
The National Peanut Festival Parade has been held for about 69 consecutive years before the Family Dollar ever opened. But now the man will have to pay the wrecker tow bill before he can get his car.
