FATALITY INVOLVING OFF DUTY STATE TROOPER UPDATED at 10:38 PM.... Motor Vehicle Accident on Hwy 52 East at Co Ro 22

HOUSTON COUNTY:  At 7:21 PM... Columbia Fire and Columbia Rescue responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Hwy 52 East at Co Ro 22. Reports are the accident is involving a motorcycle. Haynes Life Flight has been dispatched to the scene. Reports are the motorcycle driver has a head injury and difficulty breathing.

Houston County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene and shutting down the road so the helicopter can land. Members of EMA are also on scene.

The area where the crash occurred is closed until it can be cleaned up. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.

The accident involved a single motorcycle on County Road 22 just off Hwy 52. The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as off duty Alabama State Trooper Tim Suggs. Suggs and his rider were riding with his son that was on another motorcycle heading home after having dinner at the Log Cabin Restaurant. Reports are that after Sugg and his son turned onto County Road 22 something happened that resulted in the accident.  

Due to the injuries Haynes Life Flight crew transported Suggs to the hospital by ground. Short time after arriving at the hospital Suggs died as a result of his injuries. Alabama State Troopers requested help from the Dothan Police Crash investigation Team to investigate the accident.

Responding to the scene were Columbia Fire Rescue, Haynes Life Flight, Houston County Sheriff's Office, Dothan -Houston County Emergency Management, Alabama State Troopers and the Dothan police Department.
